Jean’s repeat from this year’s Bumbershoot reveals that the “Next 50 Pavilion” is the latest holder of Ivar’s footprint – sort of. The futurism of this “next 50” years included lots of minimalism, as we are wearing out the planet and so the Center and Seattle too. In this light the decision to put another ticketed glass museum nearby rather than, for instannce, the native american center promoted, suggests a “oh what the hell – lets enjoy the colors” fatalism. The Indian uses may have well be free, for part of the sense of their using this space, was that it was once a meadow for the native potlatlches, which were, you know, their rituals of giving gifts and lots of them.
