PIER 3, with its white walls and block-letter sign “Galbraith & Bacon & Co.” extends from Railroad Ave. west into Ellliott Bay at a slight slant. The Northern Pacific’s new piers joint it in a uniform row, built in conformity to the waterfront’s new plans as of 1897. The smaller and darker warehouse sheds this side of Pier 3/54 and Madison Street, crowd Railroad Ave. at the eastern limits of it chosen following the city’s “Great Fire” of 1889. These little piers would seen be razed and the wagon right-of-way between the Northern Pacific piers and the telephone/power poles would be extended west soud of Madison Street as well.
