During the summer of 1963 I drove with Herman and Sharley to Seattle to visit a close friends of their’s, the jazz violinist Joe Venuti. Herman also played the violin, the classical kind. Venuti willed him violins to Herman, who then displayed him at his old Brown’s Addition manse in Spokane. Here’s Herman with Joe’s violins, and parts of two paintings by Herman.
