About half way between Coulee City and the town of Soap Lake (at the south end of Soap Lake) on state Highway 17 is an lthmus carved by the same forces that make the Grand Coulee but aided by the Washington State HIghway Department. It is one mile long and it separates Alkalki Lake – to the east – from Lenore Lake. Lenore is the larger lake, about six miles long, and 12 feet lower than the about two miles long Alkalki Lake. For his look south (and a little east) from the north end of Lenore Lake was looks across the dividing wall of land – and the highway is there if you look for it – to cliffs that hold the Lenore Caves, a path-improved destination.
