The Northern Pacific’s official photographer (or one of them) visited Seattle several times in the late 1880s and early 1890s. This view looks east on Madison Street from the elevated bridge attached to the coal bunkers on the waterfront, now the location for Ivar’s Pier 54. Right-of-center is the block featured above bettween Madison and Marion.
