From Seattle to Seattle, from ‘Now’ to ‘Then,’ and from Dorpat to today

It was a delightful honor to be a guest, along with Elisa Law, executive director of Friends of Magnuson Park, on the May 2, 2024, edition of “The Bridge,” Jean Godden‘s and Julianna Ross‘ public affairs program on 101.1 FM.

Over the course of an hour, we covered “Now & Then,” Paul Dorpat and this year’s centennial celebration of the 1924 First World Flight, from Seattle to Seattle. Listen here.

  1. So great to hear from Jean Godden and all she has to say about my city, her city and all of us who have lived here all of our lives.

It all brings to mind Emmett Watson back in the day. He nurtured my deaf mother on how to nail her words together in a more graceful, sophisticated way regarding her writing. Not sure how they met. Would have been great to have known Emmett as a baseball player!

She was a talented writer in her own observations as a writer for the Puget Sound Association for the Deaf. However, as I recall, she did write for her Broadway High School news in the 1940’s.

AI will add that Ivar Haglund was a friend of our grandmother pianist. Grandma invited Ivar to the home once-in-awhile for our family gatherings, holidays, etc. I was young, but I remember it all. At that time, Ivar had a home in Magnolia, so it was convenient for him.

Yes, indeed — so much about my and your and all of our histories to talk about.
