I think it was the sky I first notice when driving – with only a momentary stop – behind Harborview Hospital. And it surely does look epic, I agree. Like a Flemmish skyscape or a muralists atmosphere above a Napoleonic battle scene – perhaps in Austerlitz. (Which is also the name of Sebald’s last novel before his death by heart attack and car crash about ten years ago. I have read it twice and plan to again.)
