The public memorial is this Sunday for beloved Seattle historian and “Now & Then” column founder Paul Dorpat. He died May 27, 2026, at age 87.
The event takes place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. this Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, at the Museum of History & Industry atrium, 860 Terry Ave. N., at the south end of Seattle’s Lake Union.
If you can attend, please do your best to arrive on time. Because it will be Sunday, area street parking will be free — but it also is quite limited. Bus service is plentiful. For instance, RapidRideC from downtown terminates close to the MOHAI grounds. King County Metro’s Trip Planner can help.
Seating will be limited to the first 300 people, and the evening’s program will begin promptly at 7 p.m. We have arranged for a stellar slate of speakers, plus a few surprises, even a sing-along!
